Travel Photography Workshops

Maybe you are not ready to head to a third world country to document intense subject matter in one of our in field photojournalism workshops but would like to improve your photography and learn new technical and editing skills. Maybe you are interested in learning how Zoriah goes about his photographic process or would like to begin to move towards photojournalism and documentary photography as a hobby or career.

These one-on-one travel photography workshops are designed for amateur, intermediate and hobbiest photographers and photojournalists who want to learn technical skills, editing, workflow and other subjects that will vastly improve the quality of their images and visual storytelling capabilities.  Each workshop is tailored to the needs and desires of each individual student and include time learning in the "classroom" as well as time out shooting a variety of subject matter from people to landscapes and architecture. The workshop fee includes lodging and meals which Zoriah will cook together with the student and on the final night there will be a celebratory meal at a local restaurant.

Students will live aboard zoriah's  800 square foot (75m2) ship (a Dutch Canal Boat built in 1930 and refurbished several times over the years including most recently by Zoriah in 2010.)  Students will have their own bed in a private sleeping area and teaching sessions will be held in the spacious main room.  The ship has all facilities including a bathroom with hot shower, full kitchen, washer, dryer, heat, fireplace and two outdoor decks with facilities for barbecue's in the summer.  20 full sized windows, two skylights and four port holes make the ship bright and sunny and a wonderful place to learn with views of the water and other ships in the marina.  Films relating to photography and photojournalism will be shown each evening in the onboard theater which has a 100 inch (2.5 meter) projection screen and surround sound.  We do, however, remind students that this is an old working vessel and not a luxury yacht, so they should expect the personality and character of an old ship and not five star accommodations.

Since the workshops include both shooting and editing students must bring a camera and laptop. They will also be given study materials, exercises, media and other documents to continue their study after the workshop.  Most of the subject matter covered in the popular in field workshops can be covered on the live aboards, although the same photographic options may not be available in Europe compared to, lets say Haiti.

Live aboard workshops are held in Europe, wherever Zoriah happens to be living at the time you book your stay.  Usually you will find him in Paris, other times in Brussels or just outside of Amsterdam.
